According to biblical mythology, the symbolic meaning of the Tower of Babel is that it represented the unified consciousness of humanity, before people dispersed into myriads of tongues. Does English as the language of globalisation today represent reconstruction of the tower in an apstract sense?
In other words, by learning English as a Foreign Language how much do we contribute towards overcoming the languge barrier between various cultures, and in that way symbolically towards becoming as one again?
